Schmidt’s cabinetmakers opened its doors for the first time in 1959 in Upington. The founder of the business mr Arthur Ignatius Schmidt is still very actively involved in the making of the furniture. Mr. Schmidt had his training in Germany where he worked for 10 years to perfect his workmanship as a cabinetmaker, furniture maker, joiner and builder. Mr Schmidt himself does the training in the factory.
At Ohtrani furniture there is no such thing as mass production. In the construction of the furniture we still make use of mortice joints. Oven dried wood is bought and on arrival in Upington it is air dried in the sun for 2 – 3 months. This process insures that the furniture does not distort or crack.
Here we only use top quality indigenous and foreign wood. Highly skilled workers work with wood like oak, imbuia, blackwood, “dolf”-wood, cherry wood, stinkwood, beech wood, blue gumwood, yellowwood, oregon pine, sleepers and wild olivewood.
When it comes to planning your dream kitchen, cupboards, bar or specifically made TV cabinet you can ask us for the information you need to make the right choice.
So when you want to buy furniture that will become a real investment contact us or come and visit the showroom and factory in the industrial area Industria road Upington.
